Bay to Breakers website
San Francisco's Bay to Breakers is the oldest consecutively run annual footrace in the world, a staple to the City by the Bay since 1912. With a starting point near the San Francisco Bay, a few blocks from The Embarcadero, the 12K race runs west through the city and finishes at the Great Highway where the breakers crash onto the Pacific Coast's Ocean Beach. Runners can push their 12K to a 15K and receive a bonus medal. The additional 3K runs along the Great Highway. A quintessential San Francisco experience for 105 years, the race is interwoven into the fabric of the city and is a true reflection and celebration of life between the breakers and the bay. The 2019 edition will take place on Sunday, May 19.
A Team Effort: Cleaning Up the Parks Impacted by the Race
Preserve Our Parks!
Over the span of 5 years and in conjunction with the Bay to Breakers, Big 5 has supported the North of the Panhandle Neighborhood Association (NOPNA) and the Alamo Square Neighborhood Association (ASNA) through the San Francisco Parks Alliance.
On May 24, 2017 Big 5 was recognized for our donations to the park over the last 5 years, during the re-opening for Alamo Square Park (closed one year for renovations). Big 5 has contributed just under $124,000 over 5 years toward preserving our parks.
